About Hypnosis - An Overview

What is hypnosis and how does it work?

What is Hypnosis?  Hypnosis is a method for achieving a state of heightened focus and profound relaxation. In this relaxed and focused state, called a hypnotic trance, the subconscious mind can be addressed directly and the limiting beliefs and restrictions of the conscious mind can be set aside.  The hypnotic state is a very powerful condition for creating lasting change and personal transformation.  It has been used to great effect in a number of situations by people from all walks of life-from enabling the jaw-dropping achievements of professional athletes to assisting high school students with overcoming test anxiety.

Is Hypnosis Mind Control?  A lot of people who have never experienced hypnosis before might be concerned about 'mind control' - worried that the hypnotherapist will be able to exert undue influence upon them or get them to do things that they don't want to do while they are in the hypnotic state.  However, this is not actually a valid concern at all.  While under hypnosis, you are very focused but still fully conscious, with your own abilities to think and discern right from wrong intact.  You will never accept or act on any suggestions given to you under hypnosis that your mind does not agree with.  Instead, that inner conflict will cause you to immediately leave the relaxed hypnotic state and return to full conscious awareness.
